Mold at Waubonsie Valley HS limited to auditorium carpeting

Environmental experts say mold found last week at Waubonsie Valley High School was confined to the auditorium.

Several patches of mold were discovered Aug. 13 in the auditorium carpet at the Aurora school. The carpet was removed and consultants immediately began scouring the rest of the school's first floor for more spores.

Principal Kristine Marchiando updated parents on the findings Thursday via e-mail.

"As previously communicated, our environmental consultant, Environ, was inspecting the entire first floor of the school to make certain the mold was contained to the carpet in the auditorium," she wrote. "Environ has completed its testing, and has reported that all areas on the first floor appear to be free of macroscopic mold growth."

The new auditorium carpet is scheduled to be installed in the next three to four weeks.
