Garmoe, Prospect thrive at Libertyville Invitational

Prospect junior Christine Garmoe had been trying to shoot in the 70s all summer.

She finally accomplished it the last two days by ... not trying.

Her career-best 74 Thursday earned her medalist honors in the Libertyville Invitational at Pine Meadow Golf Club in Mundelein, as she led Prospect to the title among six schools with a score of 321.

It was Prospect's fourth consecutive day of competitive action.

Libertyville (355) edged Deerfield (362) for third.

"I was just feeling more focused," Garmoe said of her 2-over-par round. "I wasn't trying too hard to shoot in the 70s.

"And the weather was good. It wasn't too hot or humid."

Garmoe's score was a career best. She shot a 77 at Mount Prospect on Wednesday, after opening the season with an 81 at Fox Run on Monday and an 85 at Glencoe on Tuesday.

"I've been shooting in the low 80s," Garmoe said. "Pretty much the whole summer I've been wanting to start shooting in the 70s. So this (74) is pretty good for me."

Prospect's Allison Walsh was second with a 79, and the Knights received a pair of 84s from Emily Mick and Sarah Scaccia.

Lake Forest's Paige Skinner was third with an 82, while Deerfield's Samantha Steinberg also had an 84.

Marilyn Stone paced Libertyville with an 85. She credited her driving for her score.

"This is a hard course for us to play," Stone said. "So I was pretty happy."

Carmel's Delaney Hunt carded a 92.
