Two youths accused of breaking into McHenry County Fairgrounds

McHenry County Sheriff's police arrested two youths Tuesdy on charges they broke into the McHenry County Fairgrounds and caused about $5,000 in damage.

The sheriff's office said a 15-year-old and a 12-year-old entered the fairgrounds at 10512 Country Club Road, Woodstock, just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, breaking into a number of buildings. Police said the juveniles shattered glass cases and shelves in the 4-H building. The 12-year-old also stole a golf cart and drove it around the fairgrounds, police said.

A witness provided a sheriff's deputy with information that helped locate the offenders, who were arrested near the fairgrounds. Both were later released to their parents.

The juveniles were charged with criminal damage to state supported property and criminal trespass to state supported property, Class 4 felonies. The 12-year-old also was charged with criminal trespass to a motor vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.
