New leader for McHenry Animal Control:The McHenry County Department of Health announced Monday that Dr. Lisa Lembke will take on the position of Division Manager/Veterinarian for the county's Animal Control and Adoption Center, effective August 16. She will replace retiring animal control manager Jerry Rivard. "We are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Lembke's caliber to continue the improvements made in our Animal Control Division that have taken place under Mr. Rivard's tenure," said Public Health Administrator Patrick J McNulty. Lembke is a graduate of the University of Illinois veterinarian school and has practiced in humane societies and shelters in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. More recently she has operated a private practice in Whitmore Lake, Mich.Latino movie festival:The International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago will present the film "Un lugar lejano" at dusk, approximately 8 p.m., Aug. 25 at Festival Park, 136 S. Grove Ave., Elgin. The film, the title of which translates to "A Distant Place," tells the story a 40-year-old photographer fighting cancer while traveling to Venezuela and elsewhere searching for his dream photo. The ride will swing into Wisconsin then return to the Fox Valley, with the fifth and final stop at Bandito Barney's, 10 N. River St., East Dundee.
