2 arrested, one sought in Fox Lake car burglaries, home invasion

Two people have been arrested by Fox Lake police for breaking into several vehicles late last week, officials said.

Fox Lake police Lt. Jeff Norris said police also are searching for a third suspect who was involved with the car burglaries and a home invasion early Thursday morning.

David P. Johnson, 22, of Round Lake Park, and Robert M. Myers, 24, of Fox Lake, have been charged with burglary to a motor vehicle by the Lake County state's attorney's office, Norris said. Meyers and Johnson remain in Lake County jail in lieu of a $30,000 cash bond.

Fox Lake police also have a warrant for the arrest of the third suspect, whom Norris did not identify.

Norris said between midnight and 12:30 a.m. Thursday, the three broke into a Pontiac Sunfire and a GMC Sierra left unattended in the parking lot at the Ingleside train station near Rollins Road and Washington Street.

Following those break-ins, Norris said Johnson and Meyers went to the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue, just down the street from the train station, and tried to break into a Jeep Cherokee.

The third suspect was standing by a red SUV in the train station parking lot.

After Johnson and Meyers broke the window of the Jeep, its alarm went off, Norris said, drawing attention from a witness, who also noticed the red SUV with the third offender keeping watch.

The witness started to call out to the offenders, prompting the third offender to run from the area, Norris said. Meyers and Johnson returned to the SUV and took off, Norris said, before police arrived.

While interviewing the witness, a call came in that a burglary was in progress on the 400 block of Garfield Avenue, less than a mile from the first burglaries, Norris said.

Police responded to that location and met with the homeowner who stated that he had been in bed when he heard a noise coming from inside his house, Norris said. The homeowner went to investigate the sound when he found a person later identified as the third suspect standing in the living room attempting to steal a laptop computer and some other items.

The offender ran from the house, Norris said, but was chased and caught outside by the homeowner. The two struggled, Norris said, but the offender was able to break away.

Police searched the area, but could not find the third offender. However, Norris said, they did find Meyers and Johnson in the red SUV. They were taken into custody.

Norris said the incident remains under investigation.
