Naturalist needed:Volo Bog State Natural Area is looking for one or two adults to volunteer as Youth Program Naturalists. The position involves a commitment of one 4.5-hour day per week throughout the school year, including winter. Volunteer YPNs lead two 90-minute to 2-hour guided tours of Volo Bog each day. Opportunities to lead other nature programs are also available. The bulk of the students are in second to fifth grades. The ideal candidate may be a stay-at-home parent with children in school, a retired individual looking for a way to stay involved, or someone whose work schedule allows for weekday volunteering. No prior experience is necessary. Applicants should contact Site Naturalist Stacy Iwanicki, dnr.volobog@illinois.gov., with their reasons for interest. Volo Bog State Natural Area is west of Route 12 between routes 120 and 134 in Ingleside.Dist. 128 checking students:Incoming freshmen at Libertyville High or Vernon Hills High must prove residency within District 128 before getting their schedules, which are set to be mailed to students this week. Students who have not proven residency will not be allowed to attend classes, which start Aug. 18. Students must prove residency by providing three original documents to the district. For a list of qualifying documents, visit lhswildcats.org or vhhscourgars.org.Kids 1st Health Fair:Some 700 volunteer doctors, dentists and other health care professionals and community members will provide a wide range of free health services to limited-income children at the 18th annual Kids 1st Health Fair. The health fair is Wednesday, Aug. 4, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Miguel Juarez Middle School, 201 N. Butrick St., Waukegan. Services provided include: immunizations, lead tests, school/sports physicals, tetanus shots, dental screenings and tuberculosis tests. More than 2,000 children are expected to attend. Co-sponsors of the fair are the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and United Way of Lake County.
