4-year-old found dead in Northbrook-area pool
A 4-year-old boy died late Monday after being submerged in a backyard pool for a time Sunday in unincorporated Northbrook, the Cook County Sheriff's office said Tuesday. Sheriff's police responded to an emergency call from Northbrook Fire Department about 6 p.m. Sunday after the boy was found floating unconscious in the pool.
The victim and his father were attending a family party at a home on the 2100 block of Post Road with six adults and 10 children ranging in ages from nine months to 10 years. Around 5:45 p.m., the adults at the party realized they didn't know where the victim was. He was found in the below-ground pool, where he may have been submerged for about 10 minutes, sheriff's police said.
Relatives immediately began CPR, and the boy's pulse was responsive. He was transported to Glenbrook Hospital, where doctors were able to establish a heartbeat. From there, the victim was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, but his condition worsened, and he was put on life support.
At 11:10 p.m. Monday, the boy died, sheriff's police said. The victim's organs will be donated to Gift of Hope.
