Batavia rec center meeting:

Batavia's city council and park board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss the recreation center proposed to be built at Houston Street and Island Avenue. The meeting will be at the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave.

Kaneland boosters fundraiser:

From 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday Paisano's Pizza and Grill, 106 N. Main St. in Elburn will donate 65 percent of all orders to the Kaneland Sports Boosters. Community members are encouraged to place a food order during those times and help raise $1,000 to support the boosters. This is the fourth year that Paisano's has hosted a fundraiser for various charities. Past recipients have been Conley Outreach, Elburn Lions Club and American Legion. Volunteers needed:

The Literacy Connection seeks and trains volunteers to tutor adults in Basic Literacy or English as a Second Language. No special education or knowledge of a second language is necessary. Training workshops will be held from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays July 5 to 21 at the Bartlett Public Library, 800 S. Bartlett Road. Volunteers can make up missed sessions during a later training series or online. Once the eighteen hours of training are complete, tutors are matched with an adult learner for tutoring one to two hours a week, at a time and location of their choice. Suicide group to meet:

Attempters' of Suicide support group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stone Manor, 528 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Batavia. It is sponsored by Suicide Prevention Services. Call (630) 482-9696, or visit spsfv.org.

Arts Fair July 24, 25:

Geneva will have an Arts Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 24 and 25 on South Third Street. More than 145 artists will display their works, and there will be free art activities for visitors. For details, visit genevachamber.com or call (866) 4-GENEVA.

Museums offer adventure:

Nearly 60 museums, nature centers and historical sites are offering kids a chance to win prizes by visiting them in the 19th annual Passport to Adventure Program sponsored by the Kane DuPage Regional Museum Association. Children 4 to 12 can pick up a passport at any participating organization and get a stamp for each site they visit. Kids who visit five sites by Labor Day receive a Certificate of Achievement. Those who visit seven sites also will receive a prize, and may be eligible for an additional incentive by returning their passport book to the location where they received it.
