Lightning sparks Streamwood house fire

Lightning is the suspected cause of a house fire in Streamwood early Saturday.

A resident in the 100 block of Red Cedar Drive awoke about 4 a.m. during a thunderstorm to find smoke in the house. A fire in the attic of the two-story frame home was quickly extinguished, officials said.

Both adult occupants escaped without incident and no injuries were reported.

The fire was contained to the attic although smoke damage was reported throughout the home. No overall damage estimate was given.

Streamwood was assisted by Hoffman Estates, Bartlett, Hanover Park and East Dundee. South Elgin and Pingree Grove firefighters covered Streamwood stations during the incident.
