Township plans recycling:

Wayne Township will sponsor a recycling extravaganza from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at its offices at 27W031 North Ave. near Carol Stream. Crews will be on hand to shred documents and recycle items such as eye glasses, hearing aids, tattered American flags, scrap metal, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, electronics and more. Church band concert:

"Band Together," billed as the multi-Church music event for the Fox Valley, will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Pottawattamie Park, 8 North Ave., St Charles. Several local church bands will be playing throughout the day. There will be volleyball, a bake sale and other activities to go along with the music. Admission is free, but donations are accepted and proceeds will benefit Lazarus House in St. Charles plus World Relief Haiti. For more information, go to BandTogetherWorld.com.

AAUW used book sale:

People wishing to donate books to the American Association of University Women's annual used book sale can drop off materials between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. today at the Crouse Education Center, 780 Shoreline Drive, Aurora. The AAUW collects hardcover and paperback books, children's books, fiction and nonfiction, CDs and DVDs. The annual sale features more than 10,000 books, with proceeds funding the AAUW's educational foundation and scholarships. This year's book sale takes place June 16 to 19 at Neuqua Valley High School, 2360 95th St., Naperville.

Cantigny joins Blue Star:

Cantigny Park in Wheaton has joined the Blue Star Museums in giving active duty military personnel and their families free admission to its museums. More than 600 museums across the country offer free admission to military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Cantigny, which does not charge admission to the two museums on the property - the Robert R. McCormick Museum and First Division Museum - waves the $5 parking fee for active duty military personnel. It will continue to do so when the Blue Star Museums program ends. Located at 1S151 Winfield Road, Cantigny's two museums are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
