Thanks for saving post prom at North

Last May, after 15 years, the Glenbard North High School Parent Teacher Student Association voted to dissolve. This organization had been responsible for many successful programs, with post prom topping the list. During that time almost 4,000 students participated in post prom activities.

Then in September, a group of parents and school staff met to discuss the future of post prom. They recognized the importance of this event in the lives of our children and volunteered their time to keep this tradition alive. Committees were formed to divide the work. They sought input from the student body through a survey. The trip was planned along with transportation and chaperons. They organized fund raisers at local businesses, sought donations, and created a very successful "treat day" at the high school.

In the end almost 300 students were able to extend their prom festivities on The Odyssey. I am proud to live in a community where kids are valued. Thank you to local businesses and organizations for your support. Thank you to all the parents and school staff who volunteered their time to save post prom.

Thanks to Tom Ciardiello for being the detail man and keeping things on track. Special thanks to John Mensik, principal and Deb Cartwright, assistant principal of student services, for being so passionate about the safety of our kids not only while they are in your care at Glenbard North. I have always considered school staff to be our kids' "third parent."
