Behind the scenes at Barefoot Bay:The Mundelein Park and Recreation District is hosting a free open house at from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center, 1461 N. Midlothian Road, between Route 176 and Winchester Road. All ages are invited for a "behind-the-scenes" look at the facility to include activities such as face painting, chalk drawing, coloring, contests and photos with "Leroy the Lobster." This is a "dry" event as swimming is not available until Barefoot Bay opens for the season on Saturday, May 29. A contract with a firm called Strategic Security Solutions will be considered. The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at village hall, 3720 Greenleaf Ave.Gurnee pool complex to open:Gurnee Park District's swimming complex is set to open over Memorial Day weekend on Hunt Club Road just north of Washington Street. Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center will be open Saturday through Monday. Daily operating hours are slated to start June 5. Typical hours of operation are noon to 8 p.m. Among the new offerings this year are teen nights, the first of which is set for June 11. Complex amenities include water slides and a cafe/grill.
