Des Plaines community fair Saturday

The Des Plaines Park District's Spring Fun Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 15, at Prairie Lakes Park's Mountain View Adventure Center & Juno Parking Lot, 510 E. Algonquin Road.

The event includes activities such as a bike safety course, Touch-A-Truck, kite flying, crafts, chalk art, climbing wall, and mini golf rounds. There will also be rain barrel demonstration and sale, gardening and fishing tips, open fishing at a retention pond, and an appearance by "McGruff the Crime Dog." As part of the fair, the Des Plaines Special Events Commission will host its seventh annual "Pooch, Pet and Pedal Parade."

Registration for the parade begins at 9 a.m. followed by the parade at 10 a.m. The event is free and kids of all ages are invited to attend. Pets participating in the parade will be judged by a panel and ribbons will be awarded for the best dressed, best wheels, best theme, fanciest, biggest, smallest, best pet/owner look alike, best tail wagger, and other categories.
