High five for Lakes' Massie
Wills Massie earned high fives.
The Lakes senior went 5-for-5 with a 2-run home run, 2 doubles and 3 runs scored, as the Eagles best host Marengo 9-3 in a nonconference game Saturday.
Travis Vanderwall also homered for Lakes (17-9), connecting on a 2-run shot. He finished 3-for-3 with a double, 4 RBI and a pair of runs scored. He also walked.
Nick Hibbing (6-0) was the winning pitcher, tossing 4 innings of 1-run (unearned) ball, while allowing 3 hits (all singles). He struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
Mundelein14, Wheeling 1: Colin Franklin cracked 3 doubles in a 3-for-3 effort, and Mike O'Donogue and Luis Carrasco homered, as the host Mustangs won the nonconference game in five innings.
Charlie Gandolfi (2-for-2), Tyler Adams and John Devito also doubled for Mundelein (18-7).
Franklin also pitched 3 innings for the win.
Round Lake sweeps Northtown Academy: The Panthers won 8-0 and 10-1 on their home field, as Matt Baum pitched a 2-hitter in Game 1, striking out 10 and walking 4 in 7 innings.
Baum got offensive support from Matt Novak (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Alex Macias (2-for-2, 2 RBI).
Round Lake (5-21) got a great effort on the mound from Chris Rana in the second game. Rana struck out 14 batters in 6 innings, while yielding 6 hits. Jordan Nicolai went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI, and Angel Velasquez was 2-for-3 wih 2 RBI.
Antioch sweeps Zion-Benton: After winning the opener 3-2 thanks to Joe Gregory's game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh, the Sequoits completed the sweep with a 9-5 victory.
Paul DeJong went 2-for-4 in the opener, while Gregory had a double. Ryan Dragoon pitched all 7 innings for the win, striking out 10, allowing 4 hits and walking one.
Antioch (12-13) got 2 RBI apiece from Adam Warner (2-for-3) and DeJong (double) in Game 2. Brett Prather tripled, and Kevin Smiley worked 3 innings of 1-hit ball for the win.
