Mundelein's Brust commits to Wisconsin
From a Hawkeye to a Badger.
Ben Brust has a new identity. Or at least a new mascot to identify with.
Brust, Mundelein's star basketball player who averaged 24.6 points per game this winter and scored more than 1,700 career points, announced late Friday night that he has finally ended his unorthodox college recruiting odyssey by committing to the University of Wisconsin.
He is in Madison this weekend for his official visit.
Brust painfully made the decision in March to de-commit from Iowa after the coach who had recruited him there, Todd Lickliter, had been fired.
Brust said that he wanted to re-open the recruiting process and entertain all offers, including his original offer from Iowa.
He was interested in getting to know the new coaching staff there better.
Brust said in April that he had also gotten offers from Wisconsin, Boston College and California and that Northwestern, Wake Forest and Minnesota were expressing serious interest as well.
