State prepares to lose another 920 jobs
The state could lose about 920 jobs in coming months at various companies, including those around the suburbs, according to documents filed with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
One of those companies, Navistar Financial Corp. in Schaumburg, an affiliate of Warrenville-based Navistar, said about 178 workers would be affected. Some of the affected workers could transfer by June to GE Capital, which purchased the retail portion of Navistar Financial a couple of months ago, said Navistar spokesman Roy Wiley.
About 12 workers are expected to take severance packages, and the rest could remain employed for a few more years until other decisions are made, Wiley said.
Navistar is aiming to move its Warrenville headquarters to Lisle and has been restructuring its operations.
Other companies expecting to reduce their work force, according to the documents, include:
• 87 employees by June at Elk Grove Village-based Material Sciences Corp.'s MSC Pre-Finish Metals Inc.;
• 86 employees at the Sears store that's closing by July at Ford City shopping mall in Chicago and 84 more workers by June at Sears' Parts Distribution Center in Schaumburg. Sears is headquartered in Hoffman Estates; and,
• 177 employees by June in Oak Brook with London-based Reed Business Information, publishers of Variety and other trade magazines.
Calls to these companies were not returned.
