Jacobs earns some revenge over Dundee-Crown

Jacobs senior Kelsey Quitschau didn't want the same feeling Tuesday that she had after the Golden Eagles' first meeting with Dundee-Crown.

Quitschau scored the go-ahead goal 5:20 into the second half Tuesday to help Jacobs to a 3-1 victory, avenging an earlier loss to the Chargers.

"It was a little upsetting after the first game," Quitschau said. "We came ready to play. It feels good to come out on top."

D-C (4-11-3, 1-8), which beat Jacobs 1-0 on March 27 for its first victory over the Golden Eagles in many years, took the lead less than 7 minutes into the match. A long ball from midfield by Mallory Fryor that was just supposed to be a pass, bounced over Jacobs goalkeeper Alex Williams and into the goal.

Attacking into a strong wind in the first half, the Golden Eagles (9-9-1, 2-5) tied the game with 21:11 remaining before halftime. Cassidy Sherman headed home a corner kick from Margaret Rivera.

"It was crucial for the mental part of the game," Jacobs coach Anthony Cappello said of tying the game before halftime. "We knew if we got out of the first half 0-0, we we're all right. Giving up that early goal, it's tough with the wind like this. Getting that goal back was huge for our confidence."

The Golden Eagles scored twice in a 29-second span in first 6 minutes of the second half. Quitschau's 30-yard shot looked as if it would be handled by Chargers goalkeeper Deanna Libricz. But the ball bounced out of Libricz's hands and into the net with 34:40 left.

"I didn't think it was going to in. I thought she had it," Quitschau said.

Lizzie Travis added a goal off an assist from Sherman just 29 seconds later to give Jacobs a 3-1 lead.

"I thought we played pretty well except for a 5-minute (span)," Chargers coach Sebastian Falinski said. "Mental lapses kind of killed us."
