Mundelein District 75 workshop:The first of three community workshops regarding the financial situation and suggestions for the future of Mundelein Elementary District 75 is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carl Sandburg Middle School, 855 W. Hawley St., Mundelein. The others will be held at the same time and place on May 12 and May 27. A decline in enrollment, lack of new construction and growth in property values, decline in state aid and proposed cuts in education are critical factors that have affected the district. The workshops will include an overview of financial facts after which participants will break into groups to discuss future priorities and other suggestions. District 75 just cut $860,000 but could face a $1.5 million deficit.Libertyville pageant applications:Contestants are being sought for the 2010 Libertyville Pageant, scheduled for Thursday, June 17, in Cook Park. Applications are available at the Libertyville village hall, 118 West Cook Ave., Libertyville. Age requirements are: 16 to 21 for Miss Libertyville contestants; 11 to 13 for Junior Miss; and 6 to 8 for Little Miss. Contestants must reside in the 60048 ZIP code. Official pageant information is included in the application packet. All applications must be received no later than Thursday, May 7. For details, call Bunny Otrembiak at (847) 362-7898.Dance show set:The last Mundelein High School Orchesis show of the school year is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for children, seniors, and students with IDs.Play poker for Prairie Crossing:Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake will host a Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament at 7:30 p.m. May 14, in the school's gymnasium on Jones Point Road, just west of Route 45. Buy-in for the tourney is a $75 donation to the charter school, which offers an environmentally focused curriculum for kindergarten through eighth grade. Players knocked out in the first round may buy-in for another $75. To reserve a seat, payment may be made by cash, check or credit card at the school's office, 1531 Jones Point Road. First prize will be a 50-inch flat-screen television. Questions may be directed to Principal Brian Green at (847) 543-9722. Credit-card reservations will be accepted by the telephone. Seating is limited to the event. The general public is welcome to participate. Unlike traditional public schools, officials say Prairie Crossing holds fundraising events because is doesn't operate solely on public cash.
