Districts lose sight of what's important
The Thursday, April 8, 2010 Daily Herald article on the contract extension of the Dist. 220 superintendent is yet another example of the injustice in our current school administration system.
Here is a school district, like many others in the area, that had to cut $2.4 million in student services from their budget only to give half of it back to the superintendent under his new contract over the next four years.
Why do the students always have to have to bear the brunt of these cuts? What's wrong with the administration making salary concessions in this time of financial crisis? After all, we as taxpayers, hire the school boards to develop the programs to provide our children with a quality education. It's all about greed and not what's best for our students!
In another example of uncontrolled spending, Dist. 15 is currently trying to float a $27 million bond issue without a referendum to increase their working capital. And who's going to pay for that; the taxpayers of course.
It's time for the voters to take this message to the polls and vote against referendums for unnecessary spending and vote in new administrations that care about our kids and not just what's in their wallets!
