Crystal Lake man accused of selling cocaine to undercover cop
Cook County Circuit Court Judge Edward Pietrucha set bond at $50,000 Saturday for a 25-year-old Crystal Lake man charged with delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park, a class X felony that carries a possible sentence of six to 30 years in prison upon conviction.
Jerod Culleeney, of the 6000 block of Smith Road, was also charged with delivery of a controlled substance of less than 15 grams, a class 1 felony that carries a possible sentence of four to 15 years in prison.
Culleeney is accused of selling the substance, which field-tested positive for cocaine, to an undercover Schaumburg police officer for $325 on Feb. 17, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Ina Kantor. Asked about the six-week delay between the time of the incident and the time of the defendant's arrest, Kantor said police had been awaiting results of lab tests before filing charges.
Culleeney's criminal background includes a 2006 conviction in Lake County for burglary, for which he received 18 months of conditional discharge, said Kantor. In 2001, he received one year of court supervision for retail theft, Kantor said.
He next appears in court on April 27.
