Palatine High's Horn honored
The Illinois Chapter of Phi Beta Mu has named Palatine High School's Raeleen Horn as its bandmaster of the year for 2010.
The school's music department chair and director of bands is the first woman to earn the award that's been given out since 1973. It recognizes directors who develop outstanding performing groups. Horn is in her 30th year of teaching at Palatine. Her ensembles perform in more than 50 shows each year and have toured the country and traveled in London.
They've also appeared in movies including Clint Eastwood's "Flags of Our Fathers," and as Syracuse University's marching band in "The Express."
