Local teen musicians part of 'Tuned In' fundraiser

Musicians from Barrington, Stevenson and Chicagoland Jewish high schools, among others, will perform as part of a huge concert March 6 on behalf of the Response Center.

The music for "Tuned In: A Teen Music Showcase," begins at 7:30 p.m. (7 p.m. registration) on Saturday, March 6, at the Mundelein Auditorium Theater at Loyola University Chicago, Lake Shore Campus, 1020 W Sheridan Road, Chicago.

Scheduled to perform are: Barrington High School's Heartstrings Ensemble; Stevenson High School's Jazz, Etc.; Chicagoland Jewish High School's Jazz Ensemble; Midwest Youth Artists' Big Band; the Progressive Steps from Niles North High School; Niles West High School's High Fidelity and Echo Effect; the North Shore Traveling Troupe; Speak Out from Response and Victor Abecassis.

Since its began in 1970, Response has been a dedicated advocate of strong youth leadership and preventive education, providing services like violence prevention, HIV/AIDS education, pregnancy prevention, drug and alcohol prevention and education, reproductive health care, counseling and leadership development.

"Response offers a safe haven for teens to talk freely about their concerns, feelings and pressures," says Robin Stein, executive director. "Our team is here to instill teens with self-confidence and compassion through education, counseling and medical services."

Last year, Response provided services to more than 13,000 adolescents 12-21, families, educators and mental health personnel. Supported by both public and private funding sources, Response's ability to respond to emerging community needs is limited without flexible, general operating support. Funds generated at Tuned In will support myriad critical programs.

Ticket prices are: $150 reserved seating, $85 general seating (in advance), $95 general seating (at the door) and $20 for students and performer's family members.

There is on-campus garage parking for $7, a quarter-block south of the theater.

Response is a program of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. (224) 625-2922 or responsecenter.org.
