Tenney jury to deliberate:A six-man, six-woman jury will begin deliberations Tuesday after closing arguments in a DuPage County death penalty trial. Edward L. Tenney is accused of fatally shooting Jerry Weber late April 16, 1992, during a random robbery in Aurora Township. Weber, 24, was robbed of $6. If jurors convict Tenney, a sentencing phase begins immediately to determine if Tenney should be executed. The 50-year-old former Aurora man is serving life prison terms for two 1993 Kane County slayings.Itasca tobacco checks:Itasca retailers recently came through with flying colors during tobacco compliance checks conducted by village police. The checks aim to determine if the stores are complying with laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco to minors. With help from a grant awarded by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission's "Kids Can't Buy 'Em Here" Tobacco Enforcement Program, Itasca has been educating tobacco retailers on minimum-age tobacco laws, as well as the importance of verifying the age of their customers before selling age-restrictive products.Students competing:Two students from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park will participate in the Illinois High School State Speech Tournament, which began Friday in Peoria. Junior Jake Robertson and Senior Tyler Baumann, both of Lombard, qualified by placing first in their respective categories during the sectional competition at Downers Grove South last weekend. Representing Willowbrook in two events, Jake will compete in the Original Comedy and Humorous Duet Acting categories. Together Jake and Ty will compete as teammates in the Humorous Duet Acting category. The tournament will showcase the talent of 18 competitors in 15 categories, who advanced from six Sectionals. They represent more than 200 high schools statewide.Mayors on TV:Addison Community Television will debut a program next week featuring a panel of community leaders discussing topics important in their municipalities. Addison Mayor Larry Hartwig will moderate "The Mayors," which will feature a rotating panel. The debut program features Hanover Park Mayor Rodney Craig, Roselle Village President Gayle Smolinski and Wood Dale Mayor Kenneth Johnson. "The Mayors" will be on ACTV at 5 p.m. Feb. 22, through Feb. 28. It also will air at 7 p.m. Feb. 26-28 and 1 a.m. Feb. 27-28.
