Amy Rudolph memorial game to be played Feb. 26
Seldom do mainstream and Special Education students work together in a sporting event.
The Amy Rudolph Basketball Tournament, on Feb. 26, provides a unique opportunity for District 211 students to cheer on one another while raising funds for a worthy cause.
The tournament recognizes Amy Rudolph, a special education student who passed away in November 1982, of kidney failure, at age 15.
Amy's love of sports and her outgoing personality inspired those around her. Three months after this popular student died, the school hosted a sporting event that continues every year in her honor. A successful community event for 28 years, this tournament has already raised thousands of dollars for the National Kidney Foundation.
The 28th annual Amy Rudolph Basketball Tournament will begin at 6 p.m. Feb. 26, at Hoffman Estates High School, 1100 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates.
Special education students from Hoffman Estates, Hersey and Palatine high schools, as well as Kirk School, will participate. Partners from HEHS' integrated physical education class also will participate as referees, coaches, scorekeepers, and in other capacities.
Tickets are $3 and are available in advance at the school, or at the door.
