70-year-old Lake Co. man killed in 'violent' attack

The 70-year-old man found dead in his Antioch Township home suffered multiple stab wounds in what was described as a "violent" attack, Lake County officials said Friday.

David Queen's death was officially ruled a homicide following an autopsy, and police said they have two people of interest in custody outside of Illinois who are being questioned about their possible involvement.

Queen was found dead Thursday in his home in the 40200 block of Deep Lake Road. Lake County sheriff's police were called to the home about 1:30 p.m.

Following the Friday autopsy, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said the attack on Queen was "violent", and that he found multiple puncture wounds to the victim's upper chest and back. Keller would only say Queen suffered fewer than 10 stab wounds.

Although he declined to say whether Queen had been targeted, Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran said Queen's neighbors shouldn't fear for their safety.

He declined to speak further about the case, citing the ongoing investigation.

"We are cautiously analyzing every piece of evidence," Curran said.

Neighbor Amiee Mabry said Queen was always very nice but that his house was often in disrepair and rarely cleaned.

"He was definitely quite a character," she said. "Everyone I met there was extremely nice, but the house was in squalor. It gave me an uneasy feeling."

She added many visitors had been seen coming and going from the home in recent months, which left the quiet neighborhood feeling uneasy.

"This is a very quiet neighborhood where everyone knows everyone else, so this was pretty shocking," Mabry said. "We know this wasn't just a random act or whatever, but it's not comforting to know something like this happened this close by. I definitely slept with a baseball bat next to my bed last night."
