New District 120 trustee:

Less than a year after losing a re-election bid, Gerry Munley has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Mundelein High School District 120 board. Munley replaces Chris Doerr, who resigned last month. Munley had earlier served on the board from 2005 to 2009. His new term will expire in 2011.

Dog shot in Grayslake area:

Lake County sheriff's police are investigating the shooting of stray dog Tuesday on the 24000 block of Townline Road in Grayslake. The dog had been dropped at the local Save-A-Pet shelter but then got loose. A shelter employee searching for the dog heard gunshots in the area and found a man with a rifle, police said. The dog was located in the field nearby with a pool of blood around it, police said. The dog was pronounced dead at a local animal hospital. Criminal charges are possible, police said.

Flu clinic scheduled:

The Lake County Health Department and Warren Township Senior Center will offer an appointment-only H1N1 vaccine clinic for senior citizens on Friday, Feb. 5. It will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Warren Township Center, 17801 W. Washington St., Gurnee. The vaccine will be free. To make an appointment, call (888) 523-5727.

School play set:

The Mundelein High School drama department will stage the play "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" Feb. 4-6. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. each day. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors or $7 for adults. They may be purchased at the door. The show is not recommended for anyone 13 or younger.

Run for Haiti:

Organizers of the inaugural Ouanaminthe Marathon in Haiti will hold an information meeting at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Colony Club, 680 Cress Creek Lane in Crystal Lake. Martha Walker will share her experiences from numerous trips to Ouanaminthe, Haiti, and hopes to inspire people to participate in the first official marathon in this region of the country. The aim is to provide educational support to the children there. The goal is to raise $50,000 through the efforts of the running community. Those who attend Sunday's meeting are encouraged to join in a 5-mile run, with coffee, bagels and a presentation following. Please RSVP at restorehaiti@yahoo.com.
