'Food in the Atomic Age'

Discover how the mass marketing and automobile culture of the 1950s changed the way America cooked and ate at the Lake County Discovery Museum's "Food in the Atomic Age" exhibit. The exhibit features advertising postcards, as well as period textiles and kitchen objects from the museum's collection. Visitors can even explore a re-created 1950s kitchen and diner.

Runs through Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Lake County Discovery Museum, 27277 N. Forest Preserve Drive, Wauconda. Note: The museum is closed Friday, Jan. 1. Winter Wonderland's last days

The Cuneo Museum and Gardens offers its Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show through Saturday, Jan. 2. Climb into your car and drive through the light show featuring holiday scenes and familiar cartoon characters made from thousands of twinkling lights.

Hear New York Times best-selling author Tami Hoag read from her latest thriller, "Deeper Than the Dead." Hoag will also sign copies of her book at the event.

Calling all crafters

The Round Lake Area Public Library hosts its drop-in Crafter's Club. Bring your own craft supplies and join other crafters for two hours of quality crafting time. Learn new skills from participants, or offer some crafting tips of your own. Light refreshments will be provided. The program is designed for teens and adults.

Let's hit the ice!

More than 100,000 skaters take to the ice annually at the ice rink in Chicago's Millennium Park. Lace up those skates and take a few spins on the ice. Skaters may want to arrive early in the day, as lines can be a bit long. Special New Year's Day holiday hours are from noon to 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1.

The rink is open through Sunday, March 14, at Millennium Park, Michigan Avenue between Randolph and Monroe streets, Chicago. Regular hours are noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; noon to 10 p.m. Fridays; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays through Jan. 2; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays beginning Jan. 9; and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
