Daniels' double-double paces Vernon Hills

DaVaris Daniels had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead Vernon Hills' boys basketball team to a 58-48 win over Loyola on Day 1 of the 32nd annual Wheeling Wildcat Hardwood Classic on Monday.

Brandon Curry and Chris Morgan added 17 and 16 points, respectively, for Vernon Hills (8-2). Curry also had 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Robert Bryant pulled down 9 rebounds for the Cougars, who enjoyed a 36-25 lead after three quarters.

Vernon Hills plays Deerfield at 7:15 p.m. today.

Mundelein 93, Woodstock 54: At Jacobs, the Mustangs posted their highest point total of the season in winning their second straight game in Algonquin.

Ben Brust sank five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points for Mundelein (7-4, 2-0). Ryan Sawvell added 20 points and Robert Knar tallied 16 (four 3s).

The Mustangs face Bartlett at 10:30 a.m. today at Jacobs.
