Jewish group's artwork graces Prairie Center

The American Jewish Artists Club's annual exhibit of members' art is on display through December at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court in Schaumburg.

The club, which has been in existence for 83 years and is open to artists of all faiths, has a long-standing tradition of, and commitment to, the promotion of notable talent in the arts. Works of many of its members can be found in private, national and International collections.

The display features the work of many of the club's visual artist members on the theme "The Gift" in various media, including painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography and printmaking.

The work was juried by noted Chicago curator Staci Boris with awards granted. Jessica Fine of Chicago took first place for her painting of young ballerinas auditioning for a scholarship. Livia Ayal of Chicago was second with her painting "Spidermums," and Michael Zidman of Deerfield was third with his photograph, "Children at the Fountain."

Those and many other works are on display through Jan. 3 in the Herb Aigner Gallery at the Prairie Center. Admission is free to the gallery, which is open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and on evenings and weekends when other performances are going on at the center.
