Saturday's Cook County roundup

St. Viator's girls basketball team got off to a winning start in the East Suburban Catholic Conference by posting a 45-30 victory over visiting Joliet Catholic Saturday at the Cahill Gymnasium.

Bridget Urbanus (7 assists) and Taylor Skala (4 steals, 3 assists, 5 rebounds) each scored 13 points to lead the Lions (5-1), who broke an 18-18 tie at half by outscoring the Hilltoppers 14-4 in the third quarter.

Ronnie Mack added 7 points for the winners while teammate Eileen Mazanek added 5 points and 2 rebounds.

"The girls played well," said Lions coach Paul Bjerkness. "I thought our defensive effort was outstanding."

Elk Grove 50, Glenbrook North 31: Elk Grove all-time leading scorer Ashley Capotosto scored 16 points and senior Courtney Lindfors added 14 as Elk Grove (7-0) tuned up for its Mid-Suburban East opener at Hersey (4-3) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Meaghan Amann and Dani Goranson each had 3-pointers for the Grenadiers.

Lincoln-Way East 46, Schaumburg 36: Sophomore Alyssa Saklak (10 rebounds, 2 steals) and senior Taylor Kosla (4 3-pointers, 4 steals) each scored 14 points for host Schaumburg (2-6) in the nonconference game.

Senior Candace Zaplatynsky had 3 rebounds and sophomore Kelly Skorczewski 2 for the Saxons.
