Dist. 211 endorses health care curriculum

The Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 school board has approved a Health Careers Pathway program, giving students coursework that allows them to explore and to prepare for careers in the health care industry.

Much like the district's "Project Lead the Way" program approved four years ago which gives students a rigorous pre-engineering curriculum, the Health Careers Pathway program has the potential to greatly accelerate preparation of students entering health care programs upon leaving high school.

Specifically, the board endorsed the first year of the program which includes the course "Introduction to Health Careers and Medical Terminology."

The second year of the program will feature two courses, "Nursing Assistant Training" and "Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology."
