Congressional candidate withdraws:

Mount Prospect resident Patricia Bird said Thursday she is withdrawing as a candidate in the 10th Congressional District primary race. Bird was one of seven declared Republican candidates to replace Rep. Mark Kirk, who is running for the U.S. Senate. There are four Democrats vying for the nomination. Bird said the political process had become "too much of a hassle for me," but did not elaborate. The petitions of Bird and Green Party candidate Richard B. Mayers were being challenged but Bird said she was unaware of that.

Parent Boot Camp:

Mundelein High School officials will present Parent Boot Camp for Surviving Adolescence on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the school, located at 1350 W. Hawley St. The event starts at 6 p.m. The event, the second in a series of four presentations, will focus on positive communication and conflict resolution. Home and business expo:

The GLMV Chamber of Commerce will host its first auto, home and business expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Libertyville Sports Complex, Route 45 and Peterson Road. New and classic cars, including the Chevelle from the recent movie "Fast and Furious" and the Buick from "Public Enemies" will be on display. The event features many local home improvement and business vendors as well as entertainment, raffles, giveaways and food. Visit glmvchamber.org.
