Winter a winner for St. Viator

St. Viator freshman Hanna Winter is having quite a fall in cross country.

Winter won the Fenton Class 2A regional with a time of 19:08 over three miles Saturday and led the Lions to second place and a team berth in next week's Belvidere sectional.

Winter beat Bridget Reczek of team champion St. Francis (45 points) by 34 seconds.

Viator also counted Keegan Griebel (19:55), Ronnie Mack (19:59), Sarah Levenson (20:54) and Kathleen Kane (20:57) toward its team total of 53 points.

At Lake Park: Leyden's girls grabbed all five individual qualifying spots to next week's 3A sectional at Niles West.

Marta Kopacz finished 22nd in 20:08 on the 3-mile course to lead the Eagles. They also qualified Anna Perkowski (29th, 20:34), Summer Garcia (34th, 21:09), Megan Murphy (35th, 21:12) and Kristen Jones (36th, 21:17).
