Petition filings

Petition filing for established political party candidates seeking nomination in the February primary election begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday and continues through 5 p.m. Nov. 2 at the office of the Lake County Clerk, 18 North County St., Room 101, Waukegan. Lake County offices to be nominated include county clerk, regional superintendent of schools, sheriff, treasurer, county board districts 4, 7, 8, 13, 15, 18, 19, 21, 23 and, North Shore Sanitary districts 1 and 4. Precinct committeeman also will be elected in the primary. State candidates file with the Illinois State Board of Elections. Candidates for federal offices file with the Federal Election Commission. School collecting phones

Mundelein High School's environmental club is collecting used, unwanted cell phones and ink and toner cartridges through Nov. 15. They can be dropped off at the security checkpoint near the front office or with Patricia Bruno in the guidance office. The collection is timed with America Recycles Day, which is Nov. 15.

Mundelein gets red

Bingo and a three-on-three basketball tournament are among the activities planned for Red Ribbon Week in Mundelein. Festivities will begin Saturday, Oct. 24 and conclude Oct. 31. Looking for singers in Antioch

The Antioch Community Chorus is looking for singers who would like to join or chorus for the presentation of Handel's Messiah set for Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 557 Lake St., Antioch. All voice parts are needed. Rehearsals start Nov. 1 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 848 Main St., Antioch.
