DuPage clinics get more H1N1 vaccine

DuPage County residents who are considered part of the priority population for H1N1 vaccinations are now able to schedule appointments to get shots to protect against this strain of influenza.

The county's health department will offer the vaccinations at three clinics located around the county beginning Oct. 22. Officials believe they have enough of the vaccine to last through Nov. 8, but more will be made available for the entire U.S. population in the coming months.

Priority vaccinations will be given to pregnant women, health care or emergency medical personnel, caregivers of children younger than 6 months old, anyone between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old, and people between the ages of 25 and 64 who have health conditions associated with a higher risk of medical complications from influenza.

Appointments can be made anytime by calling (866) 311-1123. Times, dates and locations of daily clinics are posted at protectdupage.org. The clinics are located in Wheaton, Westmont and Lombard.

The first vaccinations will be given at the Wheaton clinic from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 22.
