When 7:30 p.m. today
Last week Lake Zurich def. Warren, 38-14; Mundelein lost to Lake Forest, 42-6.
Skinny Lake Zurich got more than a much-needed win over a quality opponent last Friday night. The Bears won convincingly in handing Warren its first loss. "Hopefully we're starting to put it together," coach Bryan Stortz said. "We've played a tough schedule and played well at times. But we hadn't put everything together. I think last week was the best we've played and we need to build off that." Lake Zurich's three losses are to Fremd (6-0), Libertyville (4-2) and Stevenson (6-0). The Bears need to win two of their remaining three games to all but officially secure a playoff berth. They finish with home games against Lake Forest (2-4) and Vernon Hills (5-1). ... Lake Zurich junior wingback Jacob Brinlee starred against Warren, rushing for 216 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 12 carries. ... Mundelein picked up its lone win against Wauconda two weeks ago but couldn't sustain the momentum against host Lake Forest, which built a 35-0 lead after three quarters last Friday night. The Mustangs have scored just 38 points. "I think they play hard," Stortz said. "That's one of the things that you look for, is how hard kids play even when they don't have success. They're trying their hearts out. We're not taking them for granted."
