Schools comply with P.E. law:

Officials from Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, like those of Barrington Unit District 220, say they are in full compliance with state laws regarding student exemptions from physical education. The law prohibits the use of any sport or physical activity outside the auspices of the school district to justify exemptions from P.E. classes. District 220 is planning to adopt a new written policy this month to reflect that they have always applied the law correctly. The reason for putting it in writing was said to have been inspired by parents claiming that Stevenson High School had begun allowing exemptions for nonschool sports years ago when professional tennis player Andrea Jaeger was a student there and training for her career. But Stevenson officials said they comply with the law and that Jaeger's exemption was justified by the fact that her traveling made her only a part-time student.
