DuPage County briefs

Roselle service cuts:

Recent budget reductions in Roselle will require village employees to take unpaid furlough days. As a result, village hall will be closed the second Friday of each month beginning this week and continuing through December 2010. All public safety services involving the police and fire departments will remain fully staffed. The furlough day initiative is part of a measure passed in late September to offset projected revenue shortfalls of roughly $1 million due to the downturn in the economy, unfunded state mandates, increasing pension obligations and a decline in other funding sources.

Carol Stream plans food drive:

The Rotary Club of Carol Stream is sponsoring a community food drive Saturday, Oct. 10, designed to benefit Interfaith Food Pantry, Humanitarian Service Project and Feeding Northwest DuPage. Residents may leave donated items between noon and 5 p.m. Saturday at the Library Barn property, 480 N. Kuhn Road. Volunteers will be on hand to collect canned goods and paper products. For details, call (630) 665-3325 or visit www.carolstreamrotary.com.

Comcast system upgrades:

Comcast will upgrade its system in Roselle during October, with some work being done overnight. To minimize cable, broadband and telephone interruptions, the FCC requires Comcast to perform much of the work between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Some improvements require access to utility easements, many of which are in backyards. Comcast workers will carry identification and use flashlights during overnight work hours. Comcast cable, Internet and telephone service may be temporarily down in some areas during the upgrades. Residents in affected areas will receive notification from Comcast. For details, call (866) 594-1234.
