McHenry woman dies in two-car crash near Fox Lake

A 54-year-old woman is dead following a two-car accident at Wilmot Road and Route 12 just outside Fox Lake, McHenry County Sheriff officials said Friday.

Joyce M. Nevitt, of the 300 block of Nippersink Drive, McHenry, was northbound in a 2000 Ford Escort on Wilmot Road at about 9 p.m. Thursday when her car was struck on the driver's side by a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer heading east on Route 12, police said.

Both vehicles spun and came to a rest in the westbound lanes of Route 12.

Nevitt was transported to Centegra Hospital-McHenry, where she died from her injuries.

The driver of the Trailblazer, Maria P. Morales, 23, of Ingleside, was also transported to the hospital, and was listed in good condition Friday, police officials confirmed.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and an air bag did deploy in Nevitt's car.

The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Major Crash Assistance Team.
