Dealers and collectors can buy, sell and trade political buttons from years past at the Political Button and Memorabilia Show.

Assisting the animals

The Wishing U Well Alpacas Farm in Woodstock hosts a fundraiser for Animal House Shelter Inc. in Huntley. Stop by the farm to see alpacas in various sizes including baby alpacas called crias. Other highlights include spinning demonstrations, food, raffles, alpaca products and family activities. Proceeds will assist the no-kill shelter.

Fishing for fun

Registered participants of all ages can fish for fun and prizes at the catch-and-release Family Fishing Derby. Early registration is encouraged as enrollment is limited to 100. Participants are urged to bring their own equipment. Prizes will be awarded to youth younger than 18 for the longest fish caught in five species categories: bluegill/sunfish, perch, crappie, bass and catfish. Participants younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated comedian and actress Lily Tomlin takes to the stage to re-create more than a dozen of her most famous comical characters. Apples and apple treats are the stars of the day at the annual Long Grove Apple Fest. Dig into some apple pie, apple doughnuts, apple cider or taffy apples. Other highlights include musical entertainment on five stages, horse-drawn carriage rides, an ice cream-eating contest, an Apple Dumpling Baby Contest and other family activities.
