Bond set for Palatine student on gun charge
Bond was set at $10,000 Thursday for a Palatine High School student charged with two felonies after he was accused of bringing a loaded gun to school Wednesday.
Maximiliano Arroyo, 17, of the 2100 block of North Heather Lane in Palatine, also will be under curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. His next court date is Oct. 22 in Rolling Meadows.
No one was injured in the incident and the gun was never used in a threatening manner, police said.
A witness told police that as students were leaving a bus at 8:05 a.m., a .22-caliber handgun fell out of Arroyo's pocket. A high school staff member and Palatine police officer in front of the school at the time were informed of the incident and Arroyo was quickly arrested.
Arroyo was charged with the felonies of aggravated use of a weapon on school grounds and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon possessed by a person under 21. He also was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapon and possession of a firearm without a firearm owner's ID card.
