Area companies honored for family-friendly workplace

Abbott, Allstate and Kraft are area companies recognized on the annual Working Mother 100 Best list honoring companies for providing a family-friendly workplace.

Working Mother magazine announced Tuesday that the local companies were on the prestigious list. Additional information is in the October issue of Working Mother magazine, available Tuesday, Sept. 22, on newsstands and at workingmother.com.

Working Mother recognized companies' continued efforts to offer creative programs that help employees in all areas of their lives, especially in the current economy. Libertyville Township-based Abbott, which was named in the top 10, was highlighted by Working Mother for its "best in class" learning and development programs.

Abbott's development programs focus on ensuring that employees at all levels have the skills, resources and mentoring they need to develop lifelong, successful careers.

Allstate is based in Northbrook and Kraft in Northfield.

Other nearby companies included on the list are Children's Memorial Hospital, Grant Thornton, Katten Muchin Rosenman, RSM McGladrey Inc., Northern Trust Corp. and Northwestern Memorial HealthCare.
