Police seeking man who held up Crystal Lake gas station

Crystal Lake police are searching for a man who robbed a gas station Thursday morning.

Police said a man entered the Shell station at 220 Virginia St., at 2 a.m., showed a handgun and demanded cash. The attendant handed over the money and the gunman ran south across Route 14 into the Coventry subdivision.

Police said the robber was described as a white man in his early or middle 20s, standing 5-foot-10 or 5-foot-11, with a thin build. He was wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, officials said, and concealed his nose and mouth with a scarf or other fabric. He also had a dark substance applied around his eyes to try to conceal himself.

No one was injured in the robbery. Officers from the Carpentersville, Cary, Lake in the Hills and Lakewood police departments and the McHenry County Sheriff's Office responded to assist in the search.

Crystal Lake police are requesting that anyone with information on the case to call them at (815) 356-3620 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 762-STOP (7867). Crime Stoppers will pay cash rewards for information leading to an arrest.
