Jacobs blanks Dundee-Crown

Jacobs midfielder Alex Lischka was just doing what he was supposed to do.

Doing so put him the right place to help the Golden Eagles relax Thursday night.

Lischka scored the eventual game-winning goal off a rebound 5:06 into the second half as Jacobs defeated Dundee-Crown 2-0 in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division boys soccer match in Algonquin.

"I was just running down the line like I usually do, what I was trained to do," said Lischka, a senior. "I saw the (Jonathan Kowalski) shot go off the keeper's hands and I put it right back in."

The Golden Eagles (2-3-1, 1-1) controlled most of the play during the first half, but seemed tight against their rival. After Lischka's goal, Jacobs was able to relax and continued to dominate most of the possession.

"We didn't show we were the better team until we put the ball in the back of the net," Golden Eagles coach Jim Dzialo said.

Taylor Pignataro gave Jacobs a 2-0 lead with 16:15 remaining with a right-footed blast from 25 yards out.

While they scored twice, Dzialo wasn't happy with the Golden Eagles finishing. They had 13 shots on goal, several from point-blank range. But Chargers goalkeeper Edit Fuentes stopped 11 shots to keep D-C (2-5-1, 0-3) in the match.

"He had some really nice saves," D-C coach Rey Vargas said. "The game probably could have really got out of hand if he hadn't made those saves."

The Chargers had a good opportunity with 5 minutes left in the first half as Ozvaldo Ramirez was free inside Jacobs' penalty area, but his shot was saved by Danny Trevor. Kyle Hagan would have tied the game 3 1/2 minutes after Lischka's goal, but was called for offsides.

"We just can't seem to get any offense going. That's our big letdown," Vargas said. "Our defense isn't going to hold every team down. You've got to get some offense going."
