Scouting: Naperville N. @ Glenbard N.
Naperville North (2-0, 0-0) at Glenbard North (2-0, 0-0)
DuPage Valley Conference
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
Last week: Naperville North 28, St. Charles East 7; Glenbard North 42, Plainfield East 0.
Last year: Naperville North 27, Glenbard North 20.
Outlook: An early barometer game in the DVC. Strength lies on the defensive side of the ball for both teams. Naperville North's returning linebacker corps of Nick Lifka, Jack Krejci and Arnas Gintautas is as good as advertised, and Blex Vixama adds needed experience to the defensive line. As for the secondary, David Hess provides stability. The offense has been more of a struggle for the Huskies, who continue to nurse numerous injuries, including a few on the line. While junior Matt LaCosse matures at quarterback, senior running backs Idris Hanidu and Jon Ryan help power the double-wing offense. Like with Naperville North, Glenbard North boasts defensive experience with returning all-DVC linebacker John Pullia and cornerback Brandon Salemi. Also keep an eye on defensive lineman Nick Abbate and defensive back Andre Smith. The Panthers have much different personnel on offense than a year ago, but much of what they do is the same. Evin Natick has rushed for 379 yards and 5 touchdowns while Donte Parker added 150 rushing yards last week. A credit to a solid offensive line, the ground game keeps churning despite the absence of Devin Harkins due to injury. The Panthers must reduce their penalties. Last week they had 3 touchdowns called back, including a pair by Natick.
Next week: West Aurora at Naperville North; Glenbard North at Wheaton North.
