Suspect in Schaumburg bank robbery still at large
The suspect in a Schaumburg bank robbery and subsequent extended motorcycle pursuit through two counties Tuesday afternoon remained at large late Tuesday night.
And they might possibly be two different people, authorities said.
The bank robbed was the Bank of America branch at 1805 E. Golf Road in Schaumburg, FBI officials said. Initial reports were that the robber left the bank on foot and that he hadn't displayed a weapon, though he had indicated he was armed.
The FBI emphasized that the motorcyclist later pursued by police may or may not be related to the actual bank robbery.
Western Springs Deputy Police Chief Brian Budds said the suspect in the vehicle chase at least is believed to be a 24-year-old resident of Western Springs. He is the registered owner of the motorcycle involved in the chase with police after the bank robbery.
The suspect vehicle was spotted in Western Springs at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday but its rider eluded capture, Budds said.
Schaumburg police Tuesday were deferring all comment on the investigation to the FBI, who revealed very little about the circumstances of the robbery.
The motorcyclist was last spotted by Illinois State Police on I-355 near Maple Street in the Lisle area, but later was seen by Western Springs officers in the area of 39th Street and Wolf Road, Budds said.
Budds added that the motorcycle in question was identified by its license plate registration and that its owner is wanted on several traffic violations from various jurisdictions.
