The Palatine Police Department is participating in a Labor Day Traffic Safety Crackdown campaign through Monday, Sept. 7. With grant funding assistance from the Illinois Department of Transportation, officers will saturate roadways to focus on impaired drivers, speeding and safety belts. Roadside safety checks will take place today near Algonquin and Roselle roads and Rand at Dundee roads.
Speed patrol coming Monday:
The Mount Prospect Police Department will begin a third "Speed Week" on Monday, Sept. 7, conducting radar speed enforcement on major roadways. The campaigns are the outgrowth of frequent citizen complaints of speeding on major thoroughfares and an awareness that there is much more pedestrian and bicycle traffic during the warm weather months. The goal is to reduce accidents and save lives, said Sgt. Michael Eterno, the department's Traffic Unit supervisor.
Police checking out drivers:
Cook County Sheriff's Police will conduct a random roadside safety checkpoint during the evening hours of Saturday, Sept. 5 , in Schaumburg, according to the office of Sheriff Thomas J. Dart. Vehicles will be stopped randomly based on the flow of traffic. Drivers will be screened for proper licensing, registration and any other violations while all vehicles will be checked for equipment and other violations.
