Real estate taxes due:

The second installment of Lake County real estate taxes is due Sept. 3. Property owners are reminded that a second bill will not be mailed. Partial payments will be accepted from those experiencing difficulty making the full payment, but any balance remaining may be subject to a 1.5 percent interest rate. To avoid receiving a final notice, payments must be received and posted by Oct. 15. Payment options include by mail, online or in person at most Lake County banks or at the treasurer's office, 18 N. County St., Waukegan. Drop boxes are at the northeast entrance of the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan or at the Division of Transportation office, 600 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. Pet blessing in Millburn:

The Millburn Congregational United Church of Christ will host a Blessing of the Pets on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. The church is at Route 45 and Grass Lake Road in Lake Villa. The informal service is open to all. A photo is a welcome substitute for pets that aren't vaccinated, don't travel well or don't get along with their fellow creatures. Circus Cats coming to Grayslake:

The "Circus Cats of Chicago," a trained domestic cat show, will be at the Lake County Fairgrounds on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. Trainer Samantha Martin uses her expertise and positive reinforcement to teach her felines a variety of tricks from jumping through hoops, riding skateboards, pushing carts, ringing bells and she even has an all-cat band called "The Rock Cats."

Plan for college:

The Mundelein High School college and career resource center staff hosts its annual college planning event for parents of seniors on Thursday, Sept. 3. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Topics will include the admissions process, financial aid, test scores and general college recruitment information.
