Emergency response training in Long Grove
An eight-week community emergency response team training class begins Oct. 6. The classes, hosted by the South Lake County Regional Community Emergency Response Team, focus on preparedness, helping people and what to do in emergency and disaster situations. Classes meet 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays at the Long Grove Fire Protection district, 1165 Old McHenry Road. Get ready for Greek festival
Lake County's biggest Greek festival will start its run in a week. St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Libertyville Township will host the event, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 21-23 at 1400 O'Plaine Road near the Tri-State Tollway. Greek food, live music and a dance troupe will be part of the action. While admission is free, on-site parking costs $10. There will be free parking and shuttle service from Viking Middle School on Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee, just east of O'Plaine Road. For details, call (847) 623-0190.
Reading fun in Mundelein
Mundelein High School District 120 students, teachers, officials and residents can celebrate reading with a special event at the school Aug. 19. Dubbed Summer Reading Celebration Day, the event will take place that morning. People will discuss books they've read from a predetermined list. Performances and other activities are planned, too.
