Probation handed down in Schaumburg pub ruckus
A bar altercation that led to a pursuit during which a Schaumburg police officer died from a heart attack has resulted in probation for a Glendale Heights man.
Jordan Miczek, 24, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and aggravated battery Monday in the Rolling Meadows courthouse. The admission stems from a Nov. 1, 2008, incident that started at the John Barleycorn pub in Schaumburg.
Miczek was ejected from the saloon after raising a ruckus, authorities said, and led Officer Frank Russo and his partner on a chase to apprehend him.
Miczek also struggled with police officers, kicking, spitting and yelling at them, prosecutors said.
During the incident, Russo suffered a heart attack that proved to be fatal.
Cook County Judge John Scotillo accepted the plea deal, giving Miczek two years of probation on each count, which will be served at the same time.
Miczek also must perform 240 hours of community service and pay court costs.
Miczek, who is married with two children, did not say anything in court.
Back in November, police said none of the charges filed against Miczek were related to the death of Russo, a popular veteran with 19 years on the force and the father of two teenagers.
